Within the framework of the Resource Efficiency and Cleaner Production (RECP) Assessments in Selected Industrial Parks/Zones in Uzbekistan the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), successfully conducted an intensive two-day workshop focused on RECP in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Held on October 24-25, the workshop brought together national RECP experts, providing them with essential skills to carry out detailed RECP assessments aimed at boosting efficiency and sustainability across Uzbekistan’s industrial zones. Led by UNIDO’s international specialists, the training focused on the hands-on application of RECP principles through comprehensive water, energy, and waste audits. Equipping trainees with practical RECP Skills. Day one introduced participants to RECP fundamentals, offering in-depth insights into identifying inefficiencies and improvement opportunities in material, energy, water, and waste management. Using real-life examples relevant to industries like textile and manufacturing, experts demonstrated methods for creating flowcharts, conducting energy audits, and utilizing thermal imaging to locate energy-saving opportunities.


On day two, the training advanced to economic assessments of RECP measures, enabling participants to analyze the financial feasibility of proposed improvements. The sessions covered key financial metrics, including Net Present Value and Payback Period, empowering attendees to evaluate the economic and environmental impacts of RECP initiatives. Experts emphasized the importance of integrating RECP strategies into companies’ management frameworks, introducing participants to Environmental Management System best practices that align with ISO 14001:2015 standards. Promoting Long-Term Industrial Transformation in Uzbekistan The workshop marks a significant milestone in Uzbekistan’s transition to sustainable industry practices. By equipping experts with RECP tools, under the GIZ Green Industrialization program funded by German Government, UNIDO is fostering a more resilient, resource-efficient industrial sector in Uzbekistan that can serve as a model for future sustainability initiatives in the region. This initiative aligns with national priorities on environmental stewardship and economic resilience, promoting industries that can thrive sustainably in a competitive global market. Through projects like this, UNIDO remains committed to fostering sustainable solutions that address the pressing environmental and economic challenges faced by industries today, setting a high standard for industrial transformation that benefits both local communities and the environment.
